Lesson #17
RATIONALE Students have previously summarized Little Red Riding Hood and applied the feminist perspective to this tale. They have rewritten the tale and read, or started to read, a feminist version of the story by Angela Carter. On Thursday, they practiced getting into Lit Circle groups and discussing quotes. This was a bit messy and slow-going. Therefore, they will be given 15 minutes at the most on Monday to finish this assignment and turn it in. They will have the rest of the period to prepare for their lit circle meeting the next day.
PROCEDURES
OPENER Students will be directed to sit with their LC groups as they come in; groups will be shown on the PB. They will be asked to open the Edmodo Do Now quiz. I will introduce image pairs for each of the review vocab words on the PB and ask students to answer either A or B on the quiz depending on which image best represents the meaning of the word. They will submit their quiz and may ask me to review any word they had trouble with.
BODY OF THE LESSON Students will be given 15 minutes on the timer to finish the quote assignment. Before I set the timer, I will review their goals: to finish this assignment, finish reading the story, to write summaries for the story that also apply the feminist perspective, and to write 5 questions about the story to bring to tomorrow’s class. They will work on these remaining tasks after turning in the quote assignment.
CLOSURE Students will be reminded to complete these assignments and be prepared for their group work the next day.
ACCOMODATIONS Students will work in groups and individually. All information presented will be given to them in the handouts as well as on the PB. Information is organized on a graphic organizer for clarity and ease of use.
ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION The Edmodo quiz will be graded. Their quote assignment will receive a group grade, and they will get participation points for their group work.
