Artifact 6: "Girl/Boy", inspired by Jamaica Kincaid's "Girl" |
AD: This is a wonderfully specific list of instructions with a great variety of complexity, with many sophisticated and unique inferences. I am excited to see what you can come up with on writing assignments that you do before the last minute and take the time to develop and revise before submitting.
FB: you did a beautiful job on this piece. I can tell that you tried hard to take Kincaid's syntax (the form of her writing) and model it, but somehow you were still able to make it your own and your voice came through. You also managed to include a great variety of messages, both simple and complex, spoken and implied. Wonderful.
JD: This showed a consistent voice and was inspiring and passionate. Great work on this!
AH: Really nice work on this. I can tell you have a lot of responsibilities and take them to heart. I can hear your voice come through this piece along with the messages you have received from those who influence you.
JT: You did a wonderful job both modeling Kincaid's style and syntax while making this your own. It's clear you have strong and supportive role models in your life that are giving you positive messages of femininity, and these voices come through as well. Well expressed.
DW: Unfinished, but a good start--you capture Mr. E's voice pretty well. I wish you have pushed yourself to develop this further, because it's when you are trying to write more that you can experiment more, get more specific, and find new ways to describe things that were at first difficult to put into words.
