Lesson #16
RATIONALE Students have previously summarized Little Red Riding Hood and applied the feminist perspective to this tale. They have finished writing their own versions of the story; now we will look at a masterfully written feminist retelling of the story. Students will work on this challenging story in stages as a group to ensure that they have a solid understanding of the story before beginning the essays that they will complete as their final assessment for this unit.
PROCEDURES
OPENER Students will begin by taking the Unit 10 Vocab Quiz to complete this vocabulary unit. This took between 15-20 minutes last time, so I will set the timer for 15 minutes and assess their progress accordingly.
BODY OF THE LESSON Students will be introduced to the story we will be reading and shown the group assignments. I will review the group roles after students have seated themselves in their group arrangements and give students 4 minutes to choose roles and take the Edmodo quiz assigning roles to each member. I will next review their in class assignment: to read the two quotes in the handout and answer the questions beneath each quote. They must discuss the quotes and the questions as a group and come to agreement as to the answers the writer will record in a Word Doc. I will then remind them to have the critic look over their work and edit it before submitting it to Edmodo. The manager will be reminded to make sure each student has written down the homework somewhere, and students make take any remaining time in the class period to begin reading the story and doing the reading summaries.
CLOSURE Before class is over, I will go over the HW assignment and stress the importance of finishing this before Monday’s class and bringing work to school.
ACCOMODATIONS Students will work individually and with a group. All information presented will be given to them in the handouts as well as on the PB. Groups are made up of diverse students that hopefully will be able to bring different skills to the table and assist each other in the work. Information is also organized on a graphic organizer for clarity and ease of use.
ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION The quiz will be graded. The quote assignment will be given a group grade, as will groups for their success in fulfilling the requirements of each role as explained on the paper they are given.
