Lesson #14
RATIONALE Students have previously summarized Little Red Riding Hood and applied the feminist perspective to this tale. They have begun planning a feminist rewrite of this story, and in this class period, they will continue this work and refine their vision for the rewrite.
PROCEDURES
OPENER Students will be instructed to open the Unit 10 Vocab List and the Unit 10 Vocab Relationship assignment on Edmodo. I will review the instructions and the example for the class, then have students complete the first relationship prompt together on the board.
BODY OF THE LESSON I will review suggestions to turning their plan into a story, such as including specific details and imagery (providing an example), dialogue, thoughts, etc. I also have included James Thurber’s Little Girl and the Wolf on a slide and will ask a student to read this aloud as an example of a concise and pointed retelling of the story. I particularly want to show how Thurber’s change is specific, uses a great metaphor, and that he changes the moral accordingly and the new moral fits with the tale’s changes. Students will then finish writing their tales when I check in on each student’s plan and progress and answer questions.
CLOSURE Students will be advised of the schedule for finishing their rewrites.
ACCOMODATIONS Students will work individually. All information presented will be given to them in the handouts as well as on the PB. Information is organized on a graphic organizer for clarity and ease of use.
ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION The sentences will be graded according to the instructions. Their plans will be graded in conjunction with their rewrites when finished.
PERSONAL REFLECTIONS / NOTES
